I currently have 2 openings beginning in March.
My name is Amy Vaughn and I have a licensed group daycare just south of Haysville. I have had my daycare since January of 2007. I graduated from WSU in December of 2005 with my Bachelors in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement. I taught at Head Start for three years until our oldest daughter was born. My husband and I now have two daughters, ages 5 and 3 and are expecting baby number 3 in April 2012. We also have a furry child named Buckley. He loves kids and usually can be found sleeping away from everyone unless we are outside.
I love working with children. I enjoy seeing them grow and learn everyday. I feel fortunate to be a part of this process. I try to expose children to many different learning activities and environments. We enjoy trips to the park, library and zoo. We also participate in many activities with Haysville's Parents as Teachers program. We go to their site 1-3 times per week for Move and Groove, Explorer Lab and Play Group.
We have a daily circle time which includes calander activities, music and movement, letters, numbers, shapes, colors, rhymes, and stories. I also have weekly/bi-weekly themes which include art, science, and literacy activities.
We also enjoy lots of free play time both indoors and outside. I believe children learn so much during free play, especially social skills. We enjoy spending time outside as well. We have a very large, fenced back yard to run, play and have fun in. I limit televison watching and only allow educational shows to be watched.
I believe nutrition also plays a great part in childrens learning and development. I strive to provide only healthy meals and snacks. We occasionaly have treats but I try to leave those for holidays, birthdays and at home. We have weekly food experiences. These include making and baking foods as well as simply exploring fresh fruits and vegetables in their natural state. This will be our second year having our own garden. We are expanding this year to include many different fruits and vegetables to eat and try.
